As I sit here looking out the window, I consider the shelter. It is finally quiet. There was a lot of barking and meowing going on late into the year. It makes me sad when I hear all the dogs and cats asking for homes and someone to love them. While I live here at the shelter, I know I am loved. I get all the canned food I want, deli meat, and sometimes yogurt. I am also lucky. I was considered unadoptable when I came here. I was rescued by my person who actually works at the shelter. I have a wonderful space in her office with a window overlooking the dog park. There are so many others that are not so lucky.....
My person told me that 2010 is going to be the Year of the Cat. She said that the people that work here want to find more homes for all of the cats that come to the shelter. Unlike me, many of them do not find a loving home. She said the shelter is going to have adoption specials every month. They are also going to have cat-only spay and neuter events in the community. They also want to educate the public on how they can help solve the problem of too many cats with not enough homes. Their goal is 50% or higher live-release rate for cats that come into the shelter. Dogs have it, why don't us felines? Hopefully, the education will help.
Stay tuned. Whenever my person updates me, I will hop on the computer and let you know what is happening. In the meantime, please consider adopting and getting your pets spayed and neutered.
